Borrowed From Nature
Laughter. Surprise. Joy. Peace. Sympathy. Sorrow. Compassion. So many emotions slip through your conscious and unconscious mind when you see nature from the minute to the grand.
Watch an ant carry a crumb across the patio and you will see a perilous journey undertaken and enormous obstacles overcome right in your own back yard. The joys and frustrations of parenthood are compressed into a few short weeks when a pair of robins raise their chicks in the tree outside your window. I borrow natures little moments with my camera and an eye to not just it’s beauty but also it’s humor. I love to capture that one tiny fraction of a second when nature is thumbing it’s nose at us.
Often, as I watch the non-human creatures that share this world with us, I find it difficult not to anthropomorphize. Birds and animals seem to enjoy such wonderful jokes and, if you’re lucky, they will share them with a keen observer. I have spent the last 30 years working as a television writer, producer and director. Most of those years were spent making commercials and promotional ads where time is limited and each image has to make a statement. This is an insane way to make a living but it does train you to really see, not just look; to notice tiny details, expressions and body language. Nature in all it’s splendid variety fascinates me. When I watch a young animal or bird exploring it’s environment, I see the world in a new way and everything is fresh and different. We share each day of our life with so many beautiful plants and creatures, I hope that you will take a few moments to enjoy some of them with me. We will be constantly updating the images and contents of this sight so come back often and see what's new. |
